The Ultimate Guide to Copy Trading in India

By ZerostocX Engineering•October 2, 2026•6 min read

Managing funds for friends and family, or running a proprietary trading desk, requires executing the exact same trade across multiple Demat accounts at the exact same time. This is where automated Copy Trading comes in.

The Mechanics of Copy Trading

Copy trading involves a "Master" account and several "Child" accounts. When the Master account buys 100 shares of Reliance, the software detects this action and instantly fires equivalent orders to all the Child accounts.

While it sounds simple, the underlying infrastructure is incredibly complex. If the Master account uses Zerodha, but the Child accounts use Upstox and Angel One, the system must translate the order payload into three entirely different API structures in under a millisecond.

Multipliers and Position Sizing

A child account rarely has the exact same capital as the master account. Good copy trading software allows for "Multipliers".

  • Lot Multiplier: If Master buys 1 lot of Nifty, Child buys 2 lots (Multiplier = 2.0x).
  • Capital Based: The software automatically sizes the trade based on the available margin in the Child account.

The Infinite Scalability Problem

If you have 100 child accounts, placing 100 API calls sequentially means the 100th account will experience severe slippage. ZerostocX solves this using Asynchronous Multi-Threading. When a master order is detected, our engine fires all 100 API requests concurrently. The 100th account gets filled at the exact same time as the 1st account.

Did you know?

ZerostocX's engine can execute trades across 50+ child accounts (spanning 4 different brokers) in an average of 42 milliseconds.
